SKF-DE-1011 Vyakarana – Philosophy of Language
To understand the analysis of language as a tool of communication and a window to the working of the mind in the Indian tradition. Philosophy represents man’s quest to understand the world around us and in earlier times included all branches of learning. All branches of learning require language as a tool for scientific inquiry and logical reasoning. A good system of philosophy should transcend all divisions and offer a holistic explanation of all aspects of knowledge. Indian philosophy has always laid emphasis on experience and the principles are accepted as tenets only after rigorous analysis and practical veracity. This can be seen in the philosophy of language from the earliest times.
This course can help develop clarity in thought, which Indian philosophy focuses on, and improve communication, develop the ability to examine a sentence for its validity or truth value, and gain an appreciation of the Nyaya, Vyakarana and Mimamsa systems of Indian philosophy on the subject of language.
